Proposal 156, set for review at the upcoming Alaska Board of Fisheries meeting in Ketchikan, seeks a 25% reduction in pink and chum salmon hatchery production across Southeast Alaska. This proposal would have a direct impact on our local economy, family fisheries, and the sustainability of both hatchery and wild salmon stocks. Hatcheries play a critical role in supplementing salmon returns, supporting local jobs, and stabilizing the availability of salmon for all Alaskan user groups, including subsistence, personal use, sport, and commercial fisheries. Your voice is essential in protecting our community’s access to sustainable salmon harvests. Together, we can ensure a strong future for Southeast Alaska and all salmon-dependent communities across Alaska.
